Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son. Genesis 18:1-2
I was reviewing notes on a previous study I did earlier this year on Job 38. Several months I studied that chapter in depth, God was showing me how sovereign He really is at a macro view. If you’ve never read that chapter, I highly recommend you read it. He is in control of all things and truly has the whole world in His hands. That chapter led to Job, chapter 42:1-2 which says, “Then Job replied to the LORD: “I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted.”
When I do my studies, I study the Hebrew/Greek words and the verses that are cross referenced to the particular scripture I’m reading. It resembles a bread crumb trail that God is having me go down to hear His voice through His word or a detective board with ties and correlations mapped across the board. I say all of that to say, stay with me here as I am trying to weave these words and verses together.
These verses in Job 42 were cross referenced with Genesis 18:14, “Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year…”. The Hebrew word for “appointed” in Genesis 18:14 is môʿēḏ , meaning a fixed time or season, an appointment. God is sovereign. God is a planner! His timing is always impeccable and is without error or delay. As I was studying, His planning nature was highlighted in the verses. It made me smile because I am very much a planner, type A, person of structure. I also had to laugh because God isn’t a rigid type A kind of God. His plans and dates for us are lovingly appointed. He is a God of order, organization, and meticulous planning without error. God does the miraculous and has appointed times for His works in our lives. It brings Him delight and pleasure to bestow His gifts on us.
At this point, the words were jumping off of the pages and I couldn’t contain my excitement. I know in my heart it was a rhema word from God just for me. Kenneth Hagin Ministries describes a rhema word like this:
“We need the written Word as our foundation, but we also need the spoken Word (rhema) for direction. We have the written Word, to stand on. We have rhema, the spoken Word, so we know what to do and where to go. When the Holy Spirit speaks to you, He quickens a Scripture verse or specific direction to you—a specific word for a specific time and purpose.“
This should get you excited! God is an organized God. When He was speaking to Sarah in Genesis 18 about her situation, He already had the APPOINTED time that she would see the tangible works of God working in her life. He would answer her prayers, fulfilling her hearts yearning, and fulfilling HIS PROMISE to her at His APPOINTED time. Maybe you’re discouraged in a waiting season that seems to go on without end. Maybe you’re looking at the long hallway ahead of you and you don’t see the end yet. Let God breathe His hope into your heart again. He hasn’t forgotten what He has promised you. He has it written down in His planner for your life. See, as I was studying these verses overflowing with hope, expectancy, promises to come to pass, God was whispering into my heart, “The answer to your prayers is coming. It’s written down in My daily planner for your life. The appointed time is coming!”
“NO plan of yours can be thwarted.” Job 42:2 The Hebrew word for plan comes from the word mᵊzimmâ (mez-im-maw’), meaning sagacious plans, purpose and also châzâh (khaw-zah’) meaning to gaze at, contemplate with pleasure. Did you catch that? God contemplates with pleasure His plans for our lives. He is good so His plans for us are good. When God appoints things for our lives, NOTHING can stop His plan. His good plans! Nothing can stop his plans. No person, no scheme, no delay of human time. God’s ways are not our ways nor are His thoughts like our thoughts. He is working, always working on our behalf. When you don’t see the Hand of God working on your behalf, you can trust the Heart of God. Jeremiah 29:11 says His plans for us are good, not to harm us but to prosper us, plans to give us a hope and a future. When He says He is going to do something, it’s as good as done!
No plan of Yours can be thwarted. Job 42:2
It made me smile as I was taking notes in this study and was contemplating all that God was saying. In my previous job, we created vision boards for what our goals and dreams were for the next year of our lives. We each put things on our boards such as travel, financial goals, taking care of our health, etc. I remembered this project and imagined God having a vision board for our lives. There’s things He envisioned for us as He appointed, determined and contemplated with pleasure for each of us. My friend, there are still things in your future that you’re going to be amazed and in awe of seeing the goodness of God in your life. He is faithful and once He sets that appointed time in His calendar for your life, it’s going to happen. When it happens, you’re going to know it was God. Somethings may look impossible right now, but it’s not impossible for Him. Nothing is too hard for Him. He cares for you, Deeply. His heart is for you. Whether you’re close to Him or far from Him, He cares. His heart is always for you.
The things He has planned for you have appointed times! It’s in His planner for your life. Trust Him. Trust His timing and His plans.
Is anything to hard for God? My heart says no… Lord, I believe help my unbelief. Restore unto me the joy of my salvation. Thanks….God is speaking to me this morning.
There’s not a moment in your day that He is not aware of you. You are the apple of his eye. He sings His songs over you. His love for you is immeasureable.
